Song String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 110: II. Allegro Molto ( alt )
    Artist Emerson String Quartet
    Album Shostakovich: The String Quartets
    Genre Classical
Comment: Although I whole-heartedly believe that string quartets are written as a whole and should not be separated into their component parts, if I had to choose a track that defined Shostakovich's 8th String Quartet, it would be the frantic second movement. Certainly rest of the quartet is much slower, but the suicidal nature of the piece is really captured in the 2nd movement (check the history of the 8th quartet). The Emerson Quartet does a masterful job with this performance. - Fiveos22
