Song Bridging the Gap ( alt )
    Artist Nas
    Album Street's Disciple
    Genre Hip Hop/Rap
Comment: Alongside "I Can," this really highlights that thoughtful side of NaS, and is part of a real comeback for our boy after the dark days that followed Illmatic (which has got to be one of the best hip-hop albums ever). Yet another hip-hop song that people need to hear, if they base their impression of the genre solely on US pop radio. Like 2Pac and a scant few others, NaS has the ability to switch with neck-snapping speed and ease between heartfelt and deep insight, and tight beats and fun rhymes. This particular song is a labor of love -- NaS connects his love and devotion to the music to the saga of his father's journey across the US and his peoples' journey across the world. And when Olu Dara sings about his son, you can almost see the pride on his face. - mkrishnan
